Ready for "Kwanzaa"? Or just need another rich, earthy kit for your scrapping?

While Kwanzaa may be a newer cultural tradition, it is one whose roots are based in the ancient harvest celebrations of Africa. Occurring December 26th through January 1st, this beautiful celebration is an African American and Pan African holiday and linguistically, means "first fruits". It is a time of gathering - family, friends and community. It is a time for thankfulness to the creator for the rich blessings of that year, a time of remembrance of those people and events that came before us and helped to shape our lives, a time of renewal of our goals and of realizing the best of African culture, and a time of celebration of all those good things in our lives- the people, the culture and the creator. There are seven days of Kwanzaa, and on each day one of the Seven Principles (Nguzo Saba) is highlighted and commemorated. These are: Unity (Umoja), Self-Determination (Kujichagulia), Collective Work & Responsiblity (Ujima), Cooperative Economics (Ujamaa), Purpose (Nia), Creativity (Kuumba) and Faith (Imani). Symbols of the holiday include the Crops (Mazao), the Mat (Mkeka), the Candle Holder (Kinara), the Corn (Muhindi), the Seven Candles (Mishumaa Saba), the Unity Cup (Kikombe cha Umoja), the Gifts (Zawadi), and the Flag (Bendera). The colors of Kwanzaa are black, red and green.
In "Kwanzaa" by Microferk Designs, you will find a palette of the three main colors with the brown and gold of the harvest thrown in for good measure. Though this kit was designed with Kwanzaa in mind, you find it's rich palette and wide array of papers and elements versatile enough to be used for any and all of your scrapping needs.
