The beginning of an amazing journey through the year, and the Wheel of Life!

As we step back in time, we look to the Ancient Ways of our ancestors who walked the earth and learned its seasonal rhythms. According to the old ways, the year was marked by not only the solstices (the longest and shortest days) and the equinoxes (the 2 days each year where a perfect balance between day and night, dark and light was achieved); but by the "cross-quarter" days. Falling in between Lammas (Summer Solstice) and Mabon (the Autumnal Equinox) is the cross-quarter holiday Lammas, the first of the trilogy of harvest festivals, and falls on August 1st. It is considered the end of summer and marks the beginning of autumn.
Lammas is marked by the grains and corn, and you will find the symbolic baking and sharing of bread during this holiday. It is also symbolized by the sun- the strong heat and light- that is now starting to wane as the days are growing shorter and shorter. One also celebrates with the flowers that are in their prime during this hot, lush time of the year. Traditional colors include yellow, orange, red, brown, green, and gold - colors of the harvest- with a splash of blue to symbolize the air and the water that nourishes all living things. Fifth in the Ancient Ways Collection, "Lammas", also called Lughnasadh by the Celts, represents the continuous circle of life - from the seed to the harvest and back to the seed again. This holiday not only celebrates the harvest and its bounty, but is also a time to take stock of our past and future responsibilities. It's focus is not only one of
thanksgiving and community, but it is regarded as a time of reckoning and accountability - a time for re-direction and transformation, if necessary.

In "Ancient Ways ~ Lammas", you will find the vibrant, lively shades of yellow, green, orange, gold, red, brown and a hint of blue.  This kit is perfect any layouts, your family scraps, summer celebrations,  and your powerful journaling projects -  you'll find yourself using it for a variety of layouts for years to come!
